Hyundai Motor Group (005380) officially announced that Ioniq 5 is the first model produced at its new plant in Georgia, USA (Metaplant America-HMGMA). HMGMA is scheduled to start operation ahead of schedule in October this year.
Hyundai Motor America announced on the 18th (local time) that the first HMGMA mass-produced model is the 2025 IONIQ 5. All trims except the high-performance IONIQ 5 N are produced by HMGMA.
Oscar Kwon, CEO of HMGMA, said: "We are currently in the final stages of construction and preparing for the launch of IONIQ 5 in 2025. IONIQ 5 is an ideal vehicle to produce (at HMGMA)."
IONIQ 5 is a model that officially announces the arrival of the era of electrification of Hyundai Motor Group. It is the first model to apply the electric vehicle platform "E-GMP" and debuted in South Korea in February 2021. Sales in the United States began at the end of the same year.

This model is particularly popular in the United States. From January to May this year, sales in the United States were 14,973 units, up 43% from the same period last year. In particular, 4,449 units were sold last month, up 82% year-on-year. Cumulative sales in the United States have surpassed South Korea.
Starting with IONIQ 5, Hyundai Motor Group plans to produce six electric vehicles of the Hyundai, Kia and Genesis brands at HMGMA. As demand for hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) in the US market has recently increased, the company plans to produce more hybrid models as well as electric vehicles. Hyundai Motor Group invested US$7.59 billion (approximately 1047.42 billion won) to create HMGMA and announced that it will create direct employment opportunities for 8,500 people.
